Walsall pair scoop Men’s Doubles Open prize at thriving Kidderminster Tennis Club.
Kidderminster Tennis Club held its eighth annual Men’s Doubles Open Tournament on Sunday. Ten pairs representing four local tennis clubs competed for the County Sports Trophy and benign conditions allowed for some high quality tennis to be played.
The final was fought between Nigel Truswell/Andy Moore from Cutnall Green Tennis Club and Steve Colwell/Mo Ali representing Walsall Tennis Club.
At one set apiece with the third set only 3 games old, Mo Ali suffered severe cramp in his right quad muscle. After some massage treatment and a banana he was able to continue but it looked like the Walsall pair’s challenge was fading away as the Cutnall Green team opened up a four games to two lead. But the trailing team refused to go quietly and produced some inspired play to put pressure on their opponents and force some uncharacteristic errors. Steve and Mo emerged victorious with the clubhouse clock showing 8.20pm.
Kidderminster Tennis Club will be holding a Mixed Doubles Open Tournament on Sunday 23rd August starting at 1pm. To enter visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NCPZH8H and complete the entry form.
